Falkland Islands, South Georgia, Antarctica January 2009

  • This trip was aboard the M/V Lyubov Orlova, a Russian built ice-strengthened motor vessel.  The trip originated and ended in Ushuaia, Argentina.  Luckily, the famed Drake Passage crossing was not too bad!  Multiple landings, via zodiac, were enjoyed.   In the Falkland Islands:  West Point Island, Saunders Island and Port Stanley.  In South Georgia:  Salisbury Plain, Prior Island, Fortuna Bay, Stromness Harbour, Grytviken/King Edward Point and Drygalski Fjord.    After passing the South Orkney Islands , Point Wild(Elephant Island), and Penguin Island it was off to the Antarctic Peninsula with stops at: Danco Island, Neko Harbour (Andvord Bay), Paradise Harbour, Cuverville Island and Melchior Islands.  You get to Ushuaia via Buenos Aires.
